Care Guide

Giant Breed Care Guide

Great Danes have specific needs. Follow your veterinarian’s guidance for your specific dog in addition to these basics.

Feeding

Feed a large-breed puppy formula that supports controlled growth. Do not over-supplement calcium or feed adult food too early. We provide a food sample and feeding schedule with every puppy.

Exercise

Do not over-exercise puppies. Rule of thumb: no more than 5 minutes of structured exercise per month of age per session. Avoid repetitive high-impact activity until 18 to 24 months.

Crate Training

A crate is your puppy’s safe den. Introduce it positively with treats and meals. Never use it for punishment.

Potty Training

Take your puppy outside immediately after waking, eating, and playing. Reward with praise every time. Clean accidents thoroughly.

Bloat (GDV) Awareness

Great Danes are at high risk for GDV. Signs: distended belly, unproductive retching, restlessness. Get to an emergency vet immediately. Ask your vet about prophylactic gastropexy.

Veterinary Care

Schedule a vet check within 72 hours of bringing your puppy home per our contract. Stay current on vaccines and annual exams. Ask your vet about giant-breed spay/neuter timing.
